For many years Rosemary heard how we can give as much intellectual information in any one course but if it doesn’t change people’s ‘unhealthy’ beliefs, concepts, understanding and practices then it’s heard by many as a ‘waste of time’.   So, experiencing this course is twofold: acquire ‘intellectual information’ that is also steeped in ‘emotional experiences’. The following testimonial is affirmation that it changes attitudes as we are conscious that our training is devoid of shame or blame:

Workshop

“Thank you so much for allowing me to participate in your powerful workshop. This program was very powerful and has been an emotional awakening for me. It was delivered with compassion and love for your fellow beings. As a result of this workshop I have a stronger more informed understanding of Aboriginal issues nationally and within a community setting and of Grief/Loss issues. Thanks for creating such a well thought out and well developed effective programme. Awesome experience!”

Ann Marie Garrett – Coordinator Our Well Being Place

It was one of the most engaging and thought provoking presentations I have been to in a while. I very much appreciated being in the presence of your personal integrity which was so heart warming & which helped my own heart to open more fully. The thoughtful historical perspective you offered has opened up new ways to think about the past 220 years of dominant Anglo culture in Australia. I think it also offers a lot of insight into much of the violence in that culture today. Thank you for your generosity and courage in sharing your story to help deepen our understanding of the impact of loss and grief on Aboriginal people. I hope that for our part, this greater understanding will manifest in our work and living practices. (2008) Helen O’Grady - Sen. Mental Health Project Officer Women’s Health State-wide

Thank you for sharing your journey and for allowing us to understand the steps you took to overcome your grief. The things that you shared put a lot of perspective on Australian history as I previously understood it. I really appreciated your understanding of grief and the way in affects generations.  I came away from your lecture with a new perspective on everything. It was truly an experience I will never forget. I have shared many of your words from your lecture with my family who have also gained greater insight. (2008)

Counselling

EMPLOYEE’S ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Rosemary’s approach to counseling and particularly her use of the grief and loss model can only be borne from personal experience and evidence based practice. Her integrated grief and loss model had a powerfully transformative effect upon my work and personal development. What I went through at work would have led me to resign or worse had it not been for Rosemary’s support.

I needed to stay in contact with Rosemary and EAP in order to work through my personal and workplace issues. Since having accessed the EAP program I am two units from completing a Social Work degree and have recently applied for a position as …………………………………………………..

I feel I am at a milestone in my career and my life and could probably write a book about the journey, which has yet to be completed.

Presentations

“Prior to sharing in Rosemary’s experience, I felt reasonably proud of my understanding of the extent to which historical events continue to cause pain and grief to Indigenous Australians, and my sensitivity to this. Rosemary enables understanding at a much deeper level. Powerful, emotional, confronting, humbling. This insight will assist your appreciation of the longevity and severity of this pain and the importance of cultural respect, support and understanding” David Norton – General Manager, TQEH
